US TSYS/TIPS: Wells Fargo strategists Boris Rjavinski and Zachary Griffiths in
their TIPS Update said the recent Sept. CPI data showed the "unstoppable
hurricanes vs. immovable Core CPI," and that they are looking for gradual
rebound in core inflation as economy firms."
- They added that "hurricane winds pushed CPI higher" as the "headline CPI
posted a 0.5% m/m gain in September as the much-anticipated effects of
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma came to fruition. Despite marking the largest gain
since January, this fell short of the consensus expectation for a 0.6% jump. The
monthly increase was enough to bring the headline y/y rate above the Fed's 2.0%
target, while the core rate held steady at 1.7%."
