WH NSA-Progress On Gaza Talks, Biden To Address Subject Later Today

ISRAEL

Barak Ravid at Axios: "White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan tells reporters: There is progress (in negotiations on the Gaza hostage deal). We see the possibility that a deal will be reached, but we can't know that for sure. Our team is in the region to discuss all these details. We think that all remaining issues can be resolved and should be resolved. The signs are more positive today than they have been in recent months. President Biden will address this later today."

  • As has been the case in recent weeks and months, talk of progress in the indirect talks is not necessarily an indication that a ceasefire deal is imminent in the short term.
  • Sullivan also confirms that the US-built pier in the Mediterranean indented to supply aid to Gaza will be wound down 'in relatively short order', saying the issue is not getting aid into Gaza but getting it to Gazans once aid is in the strip.
  • US President Joe Biden is set to deliver a press conference following the conclusion of the NATO Summit at 1830ET (2330BST, 0030CET).
