WH NSC Kirby Declines To Rule Out Biden Veto On GOP Israel Bill

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby has suggested to reporters that President Biden may veto a bill introduced by House Republicans to legislate aid for Israel as a standalone bill carved out of President Biden's USD$106 billion national security supplemental funding request.

  • Although Kirby doesn't explicitly say Biden would veto the bill, he says: "I think we've been very clear how deeply concerning this House Republican bill is and how it doesn't meet our national security needs and, as commander in chief, the President is never gonna do anything that doesn't meet our key national security needs."
  • Kirby: "The President believes that the supplemental request we submitted, in every aspect, is critical for our national security needs."
  • Kirby: "And I would remind that these are urgent requests, that's what the supplemental is all about... There was a time when the key foreign policy objectives of the United States and our national security was apolitical and it needs to be in this case."
