WH: Seen Nothing To Counter Assessment That Missile Originated In UKR

White House National Security Council Spokesperson Adrienne Watson has issued a statement confirming that the US supports NATO and Polish assessments that the missile which landed in a Polish village yesterday was likely the result of a Ukrainian error, rather than an act of aggression or miscalculation from Russia.

  • Watson: "The United States has seen nothing that contradicts [Polish] President [Andrzej] Duda's preliminary assessment that his explosion was most likely the result of a Ukrainian air defence missile that unfortunately landed in Poland."
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has come under some criticism today for appearing to call for an expanded NATO roll in the conflict in the aftermath of the explosion.
  • Zelensky said in an address yesterday: "To fire missiles at NATO territory! This is a Russian missile attack on collective security! This is a very significant escalation. We must act."
  • Action from leaders at the G20 summit has since lowered tensions and Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov today praised the "rather restrained reaction of the Americans..."
