What to watch

MARKET INSIGHT
  • The German and US curves directionally are trading in the same direction today, both bear steepening (although 2s10s curves remains off yesterday's highs).
  • Looking at STIR, we have the Eurodollar, Euribor and short sterling strips all moving lower (with short sterling leading the moves lower reversing some of its outperformance yesterday helped by the stronger-than-expected UK retail sales).
  • The main event for the day will be a fireside chat from BOE Chief Economist Huw Pill at the Bristol Festival of Economics. He has said that the November decision would be close, but also towards the end of October said that markets had become a bit overexcited. In his public appearances since, he has been fairly non-committal about his views. It will be interesting if he elaborates any further following this weeks data (labour market, inflation, retail sales).
  • We will also hear from ECB's Lagarde and Weidmann (but neither expected to say anything new) and the Fed's Waller and Clarida (the latter two both speaking on monpol/economic outlook so worth watching).
