White House NSA Jake Sullivan To Brief Press Ahead Biden International Trip

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan are shortly due to brief the press ahead of President Biden's travels to COP27, the ASEAN Summit, and the G-20 Leaders' summit.

  • Biden will attend the COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt tomorrow before heading to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to attend meetings of South East Asian and East Asian leaders on Nov. 12 and 13.
  • He will then head to Bali, Indonesia for the leaders' summit of the G20 on November 14-16.
  • At the G-20, Biden will have his first in-person meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Biden said yesterday that he will "have a conversation" with Xi about Taiwan.
  • Biden said he is "looking for competition, not conflict" with China, and they will use the meeting to lay out "red lines."
  • Biden said he wants to know what Xi believes to be in "the critical national interests of China" and the two leaders can determine whether that clashes with US interests. If there if conflict, Biden says they will discuss "how to resolve it and how to work it out.”
