White House To Persist With Bloom Raskin Fed Nomination

WHITE HOUSE

The White House has responded to a recent announcement from Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) opposing the nomination of Sarah Bloom Raskin to the post of Federal Reserve Vice Chair of Supervision by stating an intention to proceed with Bloom Raskin's nomination.

  • Fox News Congressional reporter Chad Pergram says the White House is not 'pulling the nomination of Sarah Bloom Raskin despite Manchin's opposition. [White House] says she "earned widespread support in the face of an unprecedented, baseless campaign led by oil and gas companies that sought to tarnish her distinguished career."'
  • The White House intends to confirm Bloom Raskin's nomination with bipartisan support: 'We are working to line up the bipartisan support that she deserves, so that she can be confirmed by the Senate for this important position.'
  • A bipartisan vote seem unlikely. The GOP has been consistent in their dismissal of Bloom Raskin as a credible nominee.
  • Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor before Bloom Raskin's confirmation hearing on February 15: 'I would urge President Biden to find a better, more mainstream, more bipartisan candidate to serve this crucial institution.'
  • Manchin's decision today signals a victory for Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) over his Senate Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Last week Brown publicly rejected an offer from Toomey to end the GOP fed blockade in return for four out of five of Biden's Fed nominees.
