Wholesale Electricity Prices Fell Sharply In Q4

AUSTRALIA

Data from the Australian Energy Market Operator showed that wholesale electricity prices fell by 57% q/q in Q4 2022. The government’s pre-Christmas intervention in the energy market drove a sharp fall of between 41% and 46% in electricity futures prices for the next two years. It also reported a further fall in coal consumption and the lowest gas-fired power since Q1 2004. Wind and grid-scale solar accounted for 20% of power generation. (The Australian)
