Wires-EU Made No Progress In Talks w/AZ Over Boosting Vaccine Supply

Wires and social media reporting that according to EU sources, the bloc made no progress in talks with AstraZeneca on Friday regarding attempts to increase the supply of the firm's COVID-19 vaccine doses to the bloc in Q121.

  • Same sources report AZ had raised the possibility of delivering doses from India and the US to the EU, but the timing of when this could take place is unclear.
  • Wires also reporting EU in contact with Moderna over securing of 150mn additional doses of its vaccine.
  • Clear that securing supply of vaccine could continue to cause issues in international and commercial relations with the EU. India and US likely to offer staunch resistance to the export of AZ doses to the EU if it impacts on domestic supply.
