Yesilgoz-Zegerius Nominated As Candidate Leader Of VVD

Bloomberg reporting that Dutch Minister for Justice and Security, Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, has been nominated to replace outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte as leader of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD).

• Yesilgoz-Zegerius declared her candidacy yesterday, two days after Rutte announced he would resign over the collapse of his coalition government.
• Yesilgoz-Zegerius said on Twitter, “The decision is now in the hands of the board and then the members of the VVD,” and pledged to make the country “stronger and more resilient.”
• Yesilgoz-Zegerius told Telegraf: “I have handled many different portfolios and fulfilled many political roles in recent years. I now bring a mountain of experience, including being able to quickly master content and information. That provides a solid basis to continue working on."
• Euractiv reports: "The party’s national board is expected to make her its preferred candidate for the elections later this week, with party members being set to vote on who should become party leader in a few weeks."
• A general election is expected to take place in mid-November.
