Yield Curve Steepness Closest To US Since 2018

CANADA
  • The difference in yield curve steepness between the US and Canada narrowed further at the beginning of the week and has since been largely maintained with 2s10s at just 37bp in Canada and 38.5bps for the US (Nov-2020 and Apr-2020 lows).
  • The 1.5bp gap is the smallest since Sep-2018, coming towards the end of their respective hiking cycles.
  • This time it comes ahead of expected liftoff from the BOC on Wed and the FOMC two weeks later, with potential differences in policy guidance possibly seeing renewed modest divergence between the two.
