Zelensky Does Not Believe Russia Will Use Nuclear Weapons

SECURITY

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has told German newspaper Bild that he does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin will use nuclear weapons despite increased nuclear rhetoric from the Kremlin since Putin announced a partial mobilisation of reserves and those with prior military experience this morning.

  • Zelensky: "The West will not be blackmailed by Putin."
  • Zelensky: "I am sure we will liberate our territory."
  • In his address this morning Putin said: ""If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will without doubt use all available means to protect Russia and our people - this is not a bluff."
  • His comments carry an additional threat if Russia goes ahead with plans to annex large swathes of Ukrainian territory on the frontline of war. Annexation will take place through referenda scheduled to next week, dismissed by Western leaders as a "sham."
