Zelenskyy-We Haven't Seen A China Peace Plan But Would Like To Meet

Wires carrying comments from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating that he has not seen a peace plan from China regarding the invasion of Ukraine. adds that "We would like to meet with China." The comments come following speculation that in the wake of senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi's visit to several European nations and Russia over the past week, that China could be seeking to act as a mediator in the war.

  • Earlier today (see 1255GMT bullet), Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a 'consequential' statement on the war in the coming days. No proof of this claim as of yet.
  • NATO Sec-Gen Jens Stoltenberg speaking to Reuters TV has stated that the alliance has 'seen signs that China is planning to send arms to Russia'. Given this sort of intel, it is unclear if Kyiv would view Beijing as a neutral arbiter in any future development of a peace plan.
  • There has also been speculation that Xi could visit Russia in the coming months. There has been no confirmation from Beijing, with Russia making repeated offers and invites that have yet to be answered.
