Zuma – Ramaphosa Spat Likely to Hangover 2024 Elections

  • The SARB’s composite leading indicator for October rose to 112.0 from a revised 111.7 this morning, the highest reading since March.
  • Local press remains focused on the recent announcement from former President Zuma, who stated he would not vote for the ANC at next year’s general election, but instead would vote for the newly registered Umkhonto we Sizwe. ENCA cites Ramaphosa as saying while they're not ready to divulge what action will be taken.
  • Workers at Impala Platinum embarked on a supposed illegal strike yesterday, at both the North and South shafts at Bafokeng Rasimone Mine. Management has since suspended mining operations at the two shafts and recalled all employees from the underground working areas.
  • News24 cite Hapag-Lloyd as saying that diversions in shipping away from the Red Sea means ships will be re-routed via South Africa, however local ports may not benefit from the uptick in passage.
