Zuma's Election Ban Won't Affect Ballot Papers, National Tsy Holds Bond Auction

  • The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party said that the Constitutional Court's judgement blocking ex-President Jacob Zuma from standing for parliament will not affect the ballot papers in any way. Zuma's photograph will remain in the cluster of identifiers of the MK Party on the ballot papers, even as his name will be removed from the list of candidates, as a person can be a party leader despite not running in elections.
  • Pretoria welcomed the decision by the International Criminal Court's (ICC's) prosecutor to apply for arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and three Hamas leaders. South Africa has been the chief advocate of the Palestinian side in the international arena, bringing a case against Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
  • The National Treasury will offer ZAR1.25bn of 7.10% 2031 bonds, 8.50% 2037 bonds and 8.75% 2048 bonds each at an auction today.
