Still No Clarity On Gas Supply Halt Reports

POLAND

There remains precious little clarity as to whether Russian gas supplies to Poland via the Yamal pipeline through Belarus have/are set to be halted.

  • Reports emerged earlier from Polish outlet OneT.pl (see 1547BST EM bullet) that Russia had suspended gas supplies to Poland.
  • Stephen Stapczynski at Bloomberg tweets: "European natural gas futures surged as much as 17% after local media reported that Russia halted deliveries to Poland. Poland’s grid operator said it’s preparing for a cut. The government said it wouldn’t pay for Russian gas in rubles"
  • Poland recieves an estimated 46% of its natural gas supplies from Russia, meaning a halt to supplies would have a crippling impact on the country's energy market. No official comment from Polish gas network operator PGNiG SA yet.
