Negotiator: No Agreement Reached On Zelenskyy-Putin Meeting

Wires reporting comments from a Ukrainian negotiator on the team engaged in talks with Russia stating that no agreement has been reached on organising a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

  • Comes after US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a Senate hearing that he had seen no sign that Putin was serious about engaging in negotiations with Ukraine.
  • Prospect of serious talks taking place in the short term appears limited. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Moscow yesterday and pressed for talks, while Putin has also held calls with erstwhile interlocutor Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. However, notably ahead of Russia's 9 May Victory Day parades the prospect of substantive negotiations seems slim.
