29 PLA Aircraft Enter ADIZ On 21 Jun-Ministry of National Defense

TAIWAN

A total of 29 aircraft from China's People's Liberation Army entered the Taiwanese air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on 21 June according to the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense in the largest incursion in almost a month. On 30 May, 30 aircraft entered Taiwanese airspace.

  • The escalation in aerial activity comes as tensions between Beijing and Washington D.C., escalate over China's comments regarding the Taiwan Straits as not being “international waters”. Supposedly, Chinese officials have made the claim several times in meetings with US counterparts, leading to concerns that Beijing is attempting to obscure the legal interpretation of the waters around Taiwan.
