US
US: A day ahead of the South Carolina Democratic primary betting markets are
putting former VP Joe Biden as the clear frontrunner with a 92% implied
probability of winning the state according to Betdata.io.
- The favourite for the overall nomination, Bernie Sanders, is only given a 7%
chance of winning the most delegates from the state.
- South Carolina has been positioned as Biden's 'firewall', with a large
contingent of African-Americans among the Democratic voter base, a group Biden
performs particularly strongly with.
- Biden has overtaken former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg in overall betting to
become the Democrat nominee, with Biden given a 22% implied probability of
becoming the nominee, to 16% for Bloomberg.
- Sanders still leads the overall betting with a 49% implied probability of
winning.
- Polls open from 0700ET to 1900ET on Sat 29 Feb. If the primary has a clear
victor, TV networks could call a winner shortly after polls close, but if it is
close results will not come through until late in the night/early morning.
