A Fresh Record For E-Minis

EQUITIES

S&P 500 e-mini futures powered on overnight, breaching 3,500 for the first time, dragging the major regional equity indices higher in the wake of Fed Chair Powell's Thursday address. There was little in the way of notable headline macro flow during Asia-Pac hours, with U.S. President Trump's formal acceptance of the Presidential candidacy of the Republican Party providing no content of any real surprise.

  • It would seem that the Fed's stress on running the economy hot and the elongated monetary policy support that implies is outweighing the prospect of higher longer dated yields, at least in the immediate term.
  • The ASX 200 bucked the broader trend as the materials sector struggled.
  • Nikkei 225 +0.6%, Hang Seng +0.7%, CSI 300 +1.0%, ASX 200 -0.5%.
  • S&P 500 futures +22, DJIA futures +216, NASDAQ 100 futures +54.
