ENERGY: Alaska Asks Court to Toss Interior Arctic Refuge Lease Sale Plan
ENERGY
The state asked a federal court to enjoin any oil and gas leases to be sold in Friday’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge drilling rights auction and declare President Biden’s plan to hold the sale illegal.
- The state claims the sales violate the 2018 Tax Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.
- This is a second challenge to the final decision for the sale and environmental review, scheduled for January 10. The sale affects 400,000 acres of the Arctic coastal plain within ANWR. A previous sale was held in the final days of the first Trump administration. Of the 400,000 acres, the Bureau of Land Management expects only 995 acres to be developed.
