Almost 37% of U.S Workforce Lost/Changed Job Since Feb. 2020

  • The data released represents double the typical level in the previous two decades. This is according to a study released by Arizona State and Virginia Commonwealth universities, using a benchmark U.S. Census Bureau population dataset as the basis of an online survey to collect labour data in real-time.
  • Almost 26% had a different employer, and the remaining 11% had lost their job completely.
  • The historical data is a clear indication of the challenges that lie ahead of bringing back millions of people to the workforce as the ongoing recovery develops.
  • "Shocks in the initial months of the pandemic may have permanently destroyed a large share of employer-worker matches, many of which may have been highly productive," the paper stated. "Because highly productive matches are costly to find, the economic disruption induced by Covid-19 may have induced persistent reductions in productivity and employment."
