AMLO's Electricity Reform Remains In Focus

  • The Mexican president's proposal to reform the electricity sector, giving more market share to state utility CFE, would contravene commitments made in the USMCA trade deal, according to a statement from the American Chamber of Commerce of Mexico.
    • The chamber called on lawmakers to focus energy legislation on consumers' economic health, the rule of law, sustainability and certainty for businesses
  • Proposed electricity reform sent to Congress by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador runs counter to a key lawmaker's claim that the continued operation of existing private projects is guaranteed, according to a statement by Julio Valle, an AMDEE and ASOLMEX renewable energy groups spokesperson.
