FOREX: An early dollar offered tone in the Asia-Pacific region soon gave way to
lethargy, leaving the greenback largely unmoved from yesterday's close in New
York. After making a marginal new high of $1.1828 and stopping just sky of
key-resistance, the euro faded to $1.1795 and was last at $1.1805. Aussie
trekked higher from $0.7776 to $0.7809, the move was said to be bond related,
with Australian debt agency announcing it had sold a record A$3.5 billion of
Aussie bonds maturing on 2022. Aussie quickly gave up gains to finish at
$0.7780. Kiwi-dollar followed a similar path to its Tasman neighbour and trotted
out a $0.7068 to $0.7099 range, last at $0.7082. Cable consolidated between
$1.3191 to $1.3222 and was last at $1.3198. Meanwhile, dollar yen slipped to
Y112.23, but recovered to Y112.59 on demand from Japanese retail accounts and
was last at Y112.45, precisely where it opened this morning.
