ANC Holds Annual Lekgotla, Eskom Extends Stage 2 Loadshedding

  • The Sunday Times reports that the African National Congress (ANC) is planning to brand former President Jacob Zuma's uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party as tribalist and accuse the main opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) of trying to return to apartheid as part of its grand election strategy. The ruling party is about to wrap up a two-day meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) this morning and will start its annual "Lekgotla" meeting to map out the plan of action for the year ahead.
  • Eskom extended Stage 2 loadshedding until further notice amid the "need to replenish and stabilise the emergency reserves in preparation for the weekly electricity demand, as well as the marginally deteriorated available generation capacity". Another update will be provided on Wednesday or should any significant changes occur.
  • Pretoria dubbed Friday's verdict of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as a major victory for the international order, even as the court did not order Israel to implement an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The court said that Israel must do everything within its power to prevent genocidal acts, pending further investigation.
