ANC Power Struggle Heats Up in Weekend NEC - Magashule Under Fire

  • ANC NEC expected to convene a special committee meeting (Sunday) to discuss Integrity Committee reports which clear Ramaphosa and Recommend SG Magashule step aside.
    • This will be a major focal point for local politics as opposing faction leaders go head to head.
    • Although it may be more difficult to get Magahsule to step down, another ruling against him would be favourable to Ramaphosa's power base within the ANC.
  • NEC member Gungubele says SG Magashule communicating the ANC's position on ex-President Zuma (to give him space) was a "serious source of discomfort affecting the party's credibility."
    • Notes that the ANC does not have internal structures capable of dealing with Zuma, and must be handled by the courts
