ANC Stokes Controversy Over Its Election Candidate Lists

SOUTH AFRICA
  • African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula tried to contain the fallout from the release of leaked candidate lists, which included several people allegedly implicated in wrongdoing. He said that "nobody is let off the hook" when it comes to state capture but confirmed that six of the ANC's candidates for the upcoming elections appeared at the Zondo commission on state capture. However, he noted that the ANC will only take action against them if they are formally charged. Separately, Mbalula said that the ANC has no problem with ex-President Jacob Zuma forming his own party but will fight him over the use of the name of the ANC's former military wing (MK).
  • Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said that Eskom executives are working to consolidate a report on measures to solve the ongoing energy crisis and address issues such as deteriorating facilities, low staff morale and the management of equipment procurement.
  • The Treasury offers ZAR1.3bn of 8.75% 2048 bonds, ZAR1.3bn of 11.625% 2053 bonds and ZAR1.3bn of 8.875% 2035 bonds for sale.
