ANO Begins Meeting Of Leaders To Discuss Presidential Election Outcome

Seznam Zpravy reports that senior executives of Czechia's main opposition ANO party started their meeting at 16:00CET in Prague, with rebel deputy leader Ivo Vondrak vowing to stand down.

  • ANO executives are discussing the outcome of the recent presidential election, which saw party leader Andrej Babis concede the race to retired army general Petr Pavel.
  • During the presidential campaign, Moravian-Silesian Region Governor Vondrak said he would not vote for Babis and publicly expressed his support for Pavel's candidacy.
  • ANO leaders will also discuss whether Babis should continue serving as an MP amid speculation that he might quit the Chamber of Deputies.
  • ANO's first deputy leader Karel Havlicek and deputy leader Alena Schillerova told journalists that they would prefer Babis to stay as an MP.
