APAC March Air Passenger Volumes up 38% on Year: Platts

APAC air passenger volume rose 37.5% on the year and 4.18% on the month to 28.17m in March, according to Platts citing data from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines.
- This brings overall passenger air traffic to 86.8% of pre-pandemic levels.
- Air cargo demand was up 15.3% on the year to 6.28m freight tonne km. However, a 16.2% annual increase in offered freight capacity outpaced demand growth.
- The potential for an alleviation in interest rates and inflationary pressures are expected to stimulate spending, driving further growth in air travel and cargo markets, according to AAPA Director General Subhas Menon.
- The Platts FOB Singapore jet fuel cargo flat price averaged $102.48/b in March, down 82 cents/b on the month.
