Asia LNG Imports Fall in April As Europe Imports Rise

LNG

LNG flows continue to shift from Asia to Europe, with some strength in India’s April imports not enough to offset weakness in China and Japan. Europe’s imports rose for a third month as spot prices eased.

  • The total volume of LNG imported by Asia was 20.86m tonnes in April, down from 22.23m tonnes in March and 22.19m in February according to Kpler.
  • European imports rose to the most since December up to 12.50m tonnes in April.
  • European LNG imports could steady or ease back in coming months due to healthy gas storage inventories while Asia's LNG demand could increase as a declining spot price increases interest from price-sensitive buyers such as India and Pakistan.
  • The north Asia spot LNG price fell to the lowest since June 2021 at 11.05$/mmbtu in the week to April 28.
