Asian LNG Demand Recovery Weaker than Expected in 2023: Timera

LNG

The recovery in Asian LNG demand hasn’t happened as expected so far in 2023 according to Timera Energy.

  • Data shows a gradual recovery in Asian LNG demand across China and other developing Asian markets (Sth & Sth East Asia) has been offset by weaker demand across Japan, Korea & Tawain (JKT).
  • The weaker JKT demand has been assisted by the restart of Japanese nuclear reactors.
  • Weaker Asian demand has driven a strong flow of LNG to Europe in 2023 although recent months have seen price signals adjusting to divert gas away from Europe amid weaker European demand & storage constraints.
