CHINA: At a 19th Communist Party Congress discussion on Wednesday about central
state-owned enterprises (SOEs), the chairman of the State-owned Assets
Supervision and Administration Commission, Xiao Yaqing, told reporters that the
reason for the limited number of bankruptcies among central SOEs is because both
regulators and SOEs are concerned about the impact such bankruptcies would have
on employees. He said that in the future, China would continue to take this
factor into consideration when considering SOE bankruptcies. He also noted that
the reform and corporatization of central SOEs would be accomplished by the end
of this year.
