AUDUSD Approaching 68c, Fed Chair Powell Appears Later

Aussie has been trading in narrow ranges during the APAC session but has just broken higher. AUDUSD is up 0.1% to 0.6795, just below the high of 0.6799 and off the intraday low of 0.6777. The USD index is flat.

  • AUDJPY is up 0.2% to 96.19. A$ is up slightly against the other major crosses with AUDNZD around 1.1012, AUDEUR 0.6223 and AUDGBP 0.5323.
  • Equity markets are generally weaker with the ASX down 0.3% and the Hang Seng -1.4% but the Nikkei +0.2%. S&P e-mini is flat. Brent is 0.3% higher at $76.15/bbl. Copper is +0.4% and iron ore is approaching $113/t.
  • Later Fed Chairman Powell appears before the House Financial Services Panel and Fed’s Goolsbee will also speak. On the data front UK May CPI and US mortgage applications are published.
