AUDUSD Stronger On Softer Greenback

AUDUSD has moved higher in APAC trading to around 0.6667 driven by a weaker greenback. It reached a high of 0.6673 after a low of 0.6652 earlier. The USD index is down 0.1%.

  • Aussie is little changed against the major crosses with AUDJPY steady around 93.26 and AUDNZD 1.015. Aussie is 0.1% higher versus the euro and pound at 0.6227 and 0.5356 respectively.
  • The trade surplus narrowed on weaker export growth driven by soft commodity shipments and prices. See MNI: Commodities Weigh On Exports But Trade Remains Solid.
  • Equity markets are mixed so far during the APAC session with the ASX flat, the CSI 300 up 0.3% and the Hang Seng down 0.1%. S&P e-minis are trading sideways. Brent is down 0.1% to $76.86/bbl off the intraday low of $76.61. Copper is down 0.2% but iron ore is holding between $110-111/t.
  • The calendar is very light later with US jobless claims the main item. The ECB is closed for a holiday and the Fed is in the blackout period ahead of the June 14 meeting.
