ASIAN MARKETS, AUSSIE-YEN
AUSSIE-YEN: AUD/JPY last Y82.80, 25 pips lower on the day.
- JPY switched places with AUD since yesterday, as the yen sits atop the G10
pile, while the Aussie comes last but one.
- AUD has been under pressure overnight after U.S. Trade Rep Lighthizer said the
White House is planning to raise tariffs on Chinese vehicles to the 40% charged
by Bejing on vehicles imported from the U.S.
- JPY remains strong despite positive performance from domestic equities,
possibly finds some support in underperforming U.S. equity index futures.
- Strong Japanese retail sales figures may have added some strength to the yen.
- Bears eye yesterday's lows/the 21-DMA at Y82.17/13, hoping to regain some
downside momentum, while bulls need to jump onto the Y83.00 handle before
targeting yesterday's peak at Y83.19.
