Australian Daily Covid Cases Top 100K For First Time

AUD/USD has clawed back its modest opening losses and last trades flat at $0.7181. Bulls look for further gains past Jan 6 high of $0.7223 before taking aim at Dec 31 high of $0.7278. On the downside, focus falls on Dec 22 low of $0.7121 and a break here would expose Dec 20 low of $0.7082.

  • The domestic headline flow over the weekend was dominated by the news that Australia's daily Covid-19 caseload topped 100,000 for the first time on record.
  • The Melbourne Institute will publish their inflation gauge at the top of the hour, with building approvals coming up half an hour later.
  • Looking further afield, trade balance and retail sales will be released tomorrow, ANZ job vacancies will be out on Wednesday, while housing finance data is due Friday.
