STOCKS: Australian equities underperformed for a second consecutive session,
trading 0.7% lower at writing, with the IT & consumer staples sectors providing
the most weight.
- The Nikkei 225 trades 0.4% better off at writing, with the material sector
providing the largest advance on a sectoral basis, drawing support from renewed
optimism re: U.S.-China trade matters, on the back of positive rhetoric from
Chinese policymakers.
- Chinese & Hong Kong markets were closed for national holidays.
- U.S. equity index futures also benefitted from the aforementioned optimism
surrounding U.S.-China trade matters, after starting the session in the red as
the latest round of trade talks failed to result in any declaration re: a
Trump-Xi summit.
- S&P 500 +5, DJIA +41, NASDAQ 100 +12.
