Australian LNG Strike Will Not Affect Japan's LNG Deliveries: Source

At least one Japanese buyer has been informed that LNG supplies from the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities will not be affected by the restart of industrial action from 19 October, a source with the Japanese buyer told S&P Commodity Insights.

  • "We have been told by the sellers that LNG supply will not be affected from the Oct. 19 strikes," said the source.
  • Chevron and the unions are scheduled to hold mediation talks on Wednesday with assistance from a Commissioner with Australia’s labour regulator.
  • Japanese LNG lifting volumes account for 30% of Gorgon output and 83% of Wheatstone output, according to S&P Global calculations based on industry information
