Azerbaijan Expects Gas Exports to Greece up to 1.2bcm by Year End

Azerbaijan expects to export 1.2bcm of natural gas to Greece by the end of the year, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said.

  • Azerbaijan has supplied 3.6bcm to Greece in the past three-and-a-half years from a total of 36.8bcm to Europe, Shahbazov said.
  • Azerbaijan last year provided about 18% of Greece’s demand for gas, Shahbazov added.
  • Azberbaijan is aiming to raise gas exports to Europe to 20bcm by 2027.
  • European officials are in talks with counterparts in Ukraine on how to keep gas flowing next year after the expiry of the existing Russia transit agreement at year end.
  • One option discussed is for supplies from Azerbaijan using Russian pipelines to Europe with some central European countries still receiving gas via the route.
