Azerbaijan’s Gas Exports To Europe Rose 5.6% YoY in 1H23

Azerbaijan exported 5.7bcm of natural gas to Europe in the first half of the year, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said. The country plans to export around 12bcm of natural gas to Europe this year.

  • This was slightly up from 5.4bcm for the same period last year, ministry data showed.
  • Azerbaijan shipped a total of 12 bcm of natural gas in 1H, up by 7.5% on the year, Shahbazov said.
  • Azerbaijan’s natural gas production in the first six months of this year rose by 3% on the year to 24.1bcm.
  • The country plans to supply almost half of its 24.5bcm of natural gas exports this year to Europe, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said in June. Last year it supplied 11.4bcm of gas to Europe.
  • Azerbaijan has been negotiating new long-term natural gas supply contracts with new EU markets such as Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic for the duration of 5-10 years, the deputy vice president of Socar said last month
