Azeri Gas Supplies to EU Increase to 11.5bcm in 2022

Gas supplies from Azerbaijan to Europe will increase by 40% to 11.5bcm in 2022 according to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijan supplied 8.2bcm to Europe in 2021.

  • Aliyev was speaking at the commercial operation opening ceremony for the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) on Saturday.
  • Azerbaijan plans to double gas exports to Europe to at least 20bcm by 2027. Discussions are underway to expand the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) from 16 to 32bcm/yr and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) from 10 to 20bcm/yr, Aliyev said.
  • Last month the Azeri Energy Minister said they needed binding deals to boost EU gas shipments with more clarity expected in the second half of 2023.
