Banamex Survey of Economists Scheduled, Heath Following The Fed

  • Heath Will Vote To Match Fed If Hike Is 50 Bps Or 75 Bps
  • Banxico is very likely to follow the US Federal Reserve’s next interest rate hike, Deputy Governor Jonathan Heath said in an interview with Bloomberg on Friday.
    • “The number one indicator that we’re looking at is what the Fed does. I would probably say that if the Fed increases 50, it’s a given we’re going to increase 50,” Heath told Bloomberg News.
    • “If the Fed increases 75, we’re going to have a very interesting discussion and my guess -- I can only speak for myself, I can’t speak for everybody else -- is that we’ll probably go for what the Fed does.” (Bloomberg)
  • Mexico is planning to sell Samurai bonds whose proceeds will be tied to UN Sustainability Development Goals, the first such note for the issuer, according to underwriter Mizuho.
  • Separately, Mexico’s central bank will offer up to 35b pesos of Cetes and Bondes F in an extraordinary auction Aug. 24 to regulate liquidity, according to an online announcement.
