BCB Economist Survey Due, Mid-Month Inflation Data Later This Week

  • With markets making a quiet start to the week, early attention will be on the BCB’s latest weekly economist survey, due for release at 1125GMT(0625ET). The BCB is widely expected to cut by another 50bp at its COPOM meeting next week. Later today, weekly trade balance data will also be published at 1800GMT. Of more interest for the markets will be IPCA-15 CPI inflation data for the first half of January, which are expected to show a slight moderation of inflation to 4.63% y/y on Friday.
  • On the political front, the CEO of Brazil’s development bank BNDES will present details of the bank’s new industrial policy over the next three years at 1400GMT today. President Lula and Development and Industry Minister Geraldo Alckmin are due to attend.
