BCB’s Campos Neto To Meet Fed’s Powell Today, Jan Unemployment Data Due

  • At the G20 in Sao Paulo, BCB Governor Campos Neto will attend the finance ministers and central bank governors meeting from 1100GMT(0600ET). He will also meet with the Fed’s Powell at 1600GMT, followed by a meeting with Agustin Carstens, General Manager of the BIS, at 1700GMT.
  • Data wise, the national statistics agency IBGE will release January unemployment figures at 1200GMT(0700ET). Analysts expect the unemployment rate to rise to 7.8%, from 7.4% previously. No other data are due today, but tomorrow will see the publication of Q4 GDP, which analysts see at +0.1% q/q (+2.2% y/y).
  • In other news, Petrobras CEO Jean Paul Prates said in an interview that the company will be more cautious about issuing dividends as it moves to become a renewable energy powerhouse. He said that in 10 years about half of revenue will come from renewables and that the company is looking to make acquisitions as early as this year to propel the shift.
