Belgium Formally Rejects 600MW Offshore Wind Build

POWER

The Belgian government has formally objected to French utility EdF’s 600MW Dunkirk wind farm off northeast France due to the location, the government said, cited by Renews.biz.

  • Belgium's Justice Minister, Paul Van Tigchelt, has stated that the offshore project must be relocated beyond the current 10km offshore location due to several reasons, including navigation freedom, air traffic safety, sea rescue etc.
  • “If France does not take into account our objections regarding the location of the park, we will be able to take legal action again, before the French and European courts,” Tigchelt added.
  • The country and local authorities have opposed the project's location near the sea border with Belgium since 2016.
