Belgium-German Eye Second Power Interconnector

POWER

Belgium and Germany have signed a letter of intent to assess the possibility of building a hybrid power link between offshore wind farms of both countries, according to Renews.biz.

  • The move is due to the large amount of wind capacity available in their economic zones of the North Sea.
  • The new interconnector would be the second power link between the two countries – joining the 1GW ALEGrO link.
  • Belgium is targeting 6GW of wind by 2030 and 8GW by 2040, with Germany aiming for 30GW by the next decade and 70GW by 2045.
