Belgium, UK and Ireland will assess building a power interconnector between wind farms in Ireland and the Princess Elisabeth energy island in the North Sea, according to Bloomberg.
The assessment will be completed in 1H of 2025, with the capacity of the interconnector not yet known. But the Princess Elisabeth Island will be ready in 2028 with the first interconnections up and running two years later. Up to 3.5GW of offshore wind will be produced at the site. Ireland anticipates installing a 900MW offshore wind farm by 2030 and is expected to open the auction for the project at end of 2024.
