Biden Approval Remains Low Despite Improved Political Environment For Dems

US

The approval rating of President Biden remains in the doldrums despite a significant improvement in the political environment for Democrats across a range of metrics.

  • FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver published an article today highlighting the shift in the political environment. Silver: "Democrats are now essentially tied with Republicans in our generic ballot polling average, after having trailed by 2 to 3 percentage points over most of the late spring and early summer."
  • Sliver: "Biden’s approval rating remains terrible to the point where even most Democrats say they want a different presidential nominee in 2024."
  • According to the FiveThirtyEight election model, a Democrat Senate is the most probable outcome in November, although it hinges on several races which are too close to call.
  • Silver believes that a productive month in Congress, the retreating threat of COVID, and the Supreme Court decision on abortion are three key contributors to the Democrat recovery.
  • The economy remains the primary drag on the Democrats, but a recent bounce in the stock market and an apparent peaking of oil prices has been welcomed by voters.
