The approval rating of President Joe Biden continues to rise as a chaotic opening to Congress undermines the Republican party in the latest batch of surveys.
- According to both FiveThirtyEight and RealClearPolitics, Biden's aggregated approval currently stands at 44.1%. That is the highest level Biden has recorded since October 17 2021.
- Biden has had a relatively strong start to 2023, making a concerted effort to recapture the political middle ground by appearing at an event with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to celebrate the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and making a trip to the US-Mexico border - pledging to address issues surrounding migration from Central and South America.
- The GOP, in contrast has had a shaky start to the year with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) perceived as lacking control over the conservative lawmakers within his Caucus.
- Biden's approval may take a hit in the coming weeks as the Republican party gears up for investigations into the Biden administration and alleges hypocrisy in the handling of classified government documents.
