The White House says that U.S. President Biden "had a broad, strategic discussion" with China's President Xi on "areas where our interests converge, and areas where our interests, values, and perspectives diverge".

  • A senior administration official told reporters before the call that it was initiated by President Biden as bilateral relations have soured and lower-level talks proved unfruitful.
  • It was the second time when Biden and Xi spoke. The U.S. and China have repeatedly clashed over a number of issues since their last conversation held in February.
